Hal Sirowitz (born ) is an American poet.

He first began to attract attention popular the Nuyorican Poets Cafe where be active was a frequent competitor in their Friday Night Poetry Slam. He ultimately made the Nuyorican Poetry Slam bunch, and competed in the National Verse Slam (held that year in San Francisco) along with his Nuyorican teammates Maggie Estep, Tracie Morris, and Regie Cabico.[1]

Sirowitz would later perform his ode on stages across the country, put up with on television programs such as MTV's Spoken Word: Unplugged[2] and PBS's The United States of Poetry.[3] He has written eleven books of poetry, as well as the volumes Mother Said, My Psychoanalyst Said and Father Said.

Sirowitz equitable a recipient of an NEA Camaraderie in Poetry[4] and is the previous Poet Laureate of Queens, New Royalty. He worked as a special upbringing teacher in the New York polite society school system for 23 years. Type is married to writer Mary Coiner Krotzer.

Sirowitz is the best-selling translated poet in Norway, where Mother Said has been adapted for the page and turned into a series atlas animated cartoons.[citation needed]
